HOW DOES SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION (SCR) WORK?
In an SCR generator, when exhaust gas is expelled from the engine it is passed through a particulate filter which traps microscopic particles that would otherwise be expelled into the air. Additionally, DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is injected into the exhaust system which catalyses the exhaust, converting the nitrogen oxides into nitrogen, water and CO2.
This technological advance can now be found in many types of engines, including those on ships, trains, trucks and cars.

WHY ARE SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION (SCR) IMPORTANT?
One of the most affordable and efficient systems for virtually eliminating emissions from diesel engines is SCR technology. SCR technology has been a requirement for all industrial diesel engines since 2011 in order to meet the most recen emissions guidelines.
SCR has the ability to cut NOx emissions by up to 90% while also cutting HC and CO emissions by 50% to 90% and PM emissions by 30% to 50%. SCR systems can also be used in conjunction with a diesel particulate filter to reduce PM emissions even more.
Manufacturers are able to balance generator performance and maximise fuel economy while still attaining nearly zero emissions because to SCR systems’ excellent efficiency in lowering NOx emissions. Some heavy-duty commercial generator operators with SCR systems report fuel economy improvements of more than 4%.
