THERMOGRAPHIC SURVEYS

THERMAL IMAGING SERVICES FOR GENERATORS UK

WBPS provide thermal imaging to diagnose fault in diesel generator installations throughout the UK.

WHAT IS A THERMOGRAPHIC SURVEY?

A thermographic survey is an inspection method used to detect potential problems in electrical equipment. We use thermal imaging cameras to take pictures of the equipment, which we then analyse to identify areas of potential concern. This type of survey is often used on electrical generators, as it can help to identify potential problems before they lead to a failure. Thermographic surveys can also be used on other types of electrical equipment, such as transformers and switchgears. By identifying potential problems early, thermographic surveys can help to prevent downtime and improve safety.

Thermal imaging is an extremely useful tool for electrical and mechanical fault finding. It requires no contact being made with operational equipment which means that surveys can be carried out without interruption to your live and operation critical power support system. Thermographic surveys on generation equipment can show:

  • Corroded or loose connections
  • Imbalanced Loads
  • Bearing failure
  • Cooling system problems
  • Pump failure
  • Insulation Damage
  • Blocked or poorly ventilated equipment
  • Deterioration due to age
  • Control panel HV / LV faults

We also have access to the latest in Fluke thermal imaging technology and can provide a comprehensive thermographic survey of your entire backup power system.

A typical survey of electrical equipment might include:

  • Motors and motor control panels
  • Control equipment
  • Engine
  • Alternator
  • Cable runs
  • Substations
  • Transformers
  • Switches, fuses and circuit breakers
  • Distribution boards

SURVEYING FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY

When it comes to power generation, safety is of the first importance. There is no higher priority that ensuring the safety of your team. Thermographics are one of the many techniques we employ to ensure that your generators are running safely, within their parameters for heat generation.

WB Power Services have been powering the UK’s businesses and projects since 1983. Our team are the most experienced in the UK at identifying and minimising the risks involved in high power environments. You can trust WBPS to provide the best and most up to date services to comply with and exceed health and safety requirements.

The other key reason for using thermographics is to identify a power failure before it takes place, helping to maintain a reliable power supply over the long term, and reducing the cost of downtime and equipment failure.

EVENTS

The short-term nature of events such as festivals, gigs and sports means that generators are often installed and removed quickly. Despite their short-term nature, corners cannot be cut when it comes to monitoring and maintaining the power supply and thermographic surveying helps to ensure that even generators sets that are on-site temporarily are properly commissioned and installed.

HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

Healthcare providers and hospitals cannot afford any downtime due to equipment failure. Going offline could represent a risk to patient safety and ultimately a risk to life. Thermographic surveying is a key part of the regular maintenance and upkeep of generator sets which can assist in keeping the hospital up and running 24/7.

DATA CENTRES

The loss of data is a “never happen” event in data centres. This means both prime power and backup power must be available, and in particular backup generators must be available to come online the moment they are needed. Thermographics, as part of an overall maintenance and inspection package, helps us to understand what’s going on inside backup generators under load, so that when the time comes, there’s a reliable source of backup power.

CONSTRUCTION & CIVIL ENGINEERS

In the world of construction, deadlines are continually looming, and overrun can add real risk of project failure, not to mention escalating costs. With the cost of downtivme and failure so high, thermographic imaging is part of our arsenal of tools to ensure that generators are kept online and providing power to the project.
