NORTH WEST POWER CUT: WHICH MAP TO USE

For Cumbria, Lancashire and Greater Manchester, use the SP Electricity North West power cuts page. For most of Merseyside and Cheshire, use the SP Energy Networks power cuts map. Call 105 free from any phone if you can’t see your fault. Keep freezer doors shut, avoid candles and stay away from lines on the ground.

  • Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester: SP Electricity North West
  • Most of Merseyside and Cheshire: SP Energy Networks
  • Near a boundary? Search your postcode on either map

Before reporting, check the trip switch on your consumer unit; if it has dropped, the fault may be inside your property. Dark street lights or neighbours without power suggest a network fault, so search your postcode on the right map. Unplug sensitive devices before supply returns, use a torch for light, and check whether anyone nearby may struggle without electricity.

KEEPING NORTH WEST SITES RUNNING

From Manchester and Liverpool to Preston and Carlisle, the region’s manufacturers, warehouses and hospitals cannot work in the dark. We support Manchester and Liverpool with generator hire, and our guide on how to keep your business running covers standby options.

For a business, an unexpected outage can stop production, hold up dispatch and close essential facilities. Our 24/7 emergency generator hire provides temporary power, while standby generators and regular generator servicing and maintenance help sites prepare for the next interruption. A warehouse may need lighting, doors and chilled storage; a factory may only need one critical line kept running while the rest waits. If you run critical operations, list which systems need generator power and make sure staff know the site’s isolation arrangements.

At that point crews were still working through widespread damage around Workington, Penrith and Carlisle.
