Greater London Power Cut Checker
Use this page to see if there is currently a power cut in Greater London.
Most Greater London boroughs are on the UK Power Networks network, while parts of Ealing, Hounslow and Hillingdon are served by SSEN. Search your operator’s live map by postcode, or report a cut free on 105. Business affected? We can put emergency generator hire on its way 24/7.
For a fault in Croydon, Barking, Newham or any other borough, start with the UK Power Networks live map. In west London, including parts of Hayes and the wider Hillingdon, Ealing and Hounslow area, check the SSEN Powertrack map instead. Call 105 (free) if your street is not listed. Switch off any appliance that could restart suddenly. Before reporting, check whether neighbours or street lights are out and look at your consumer unit or trip switch.
Outer and eastern London depend on large trading and logistics sites. Croydon’s Purley Way retail and trade parks, the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone and the industrial land around Dagenham Dock all need electricity for day-to-day work. When supply drops, tills and card terminals cannot process sales, loading bays stop and chilled stock may need closer attention. Offices can lose lighting, communications and the systems that organise deliveries, staff and customer service.
We provide 24/7 emergency generator hire for urgent outages, together with standby generators for planned resilience and generator servicing and maintenance to help equipment remain ready. The right arrangement depends on the load and what needs to stay operating, whether that is a shop floor, warehouse, refrigeration area or site office. Our generator hire in London can support affected sites, while the London service page sets out the rest of our offer. See also keeping your business running through a power cut.
On 29 March 2022, a fire in an electrical substation on Castor Lane in Poplar cut power to around 4,500 customers, according to London Fire Brigade. Around 100 people were evacuated from a neighbouring depot and 1,500 students from a college behind the site, and the Blackwall and Rotherhithe tunnels were closed that afternoon.
UK Power Networks maintains most of the capital’s underground cables and substations, with SSEN responsible for parts of west London. Households who may be eligible can join the Priority Services Register for extra support during an outage.
Most of London is served by UK Power Networks, so its live power cut map is the place to start. Addresses on the SSEN network in west London should use Powertrack.
