Newcastle Power Cut Checker
Use this page to see if there is currently a power cut in Newcastle.
Newcastle’s power comes through the Northern Powergrid network. Check the Northern Powergrid live power cut map or call 105 free to report a cut. If your business has gone dark, we can supply an emergency generator 24/7.
Northern Powergrid looks after the cables and substations in Newcastle upon Tyne. Open the Northern Powergrid live power cut map to see whether your postcode is listed, or call 105 (free, 24 hours) to report a fault and get an update. Keep clear of any line on the ground, as it may still be live. If neighbours still have lights on, check your own fuse board first. While you wait, charge devices, keep a torch within reach and check on elderly neighbours.
Around Newcastle University, Northumbria University and Newcastle International Airport, a loss of supply stops labs, lecture halls and operations quickly. Businesses further out feel the same on every trading estate, where tills, machinery and computers go down together. For a lab, a cut can mean lost samples; for a shop, a lost day of trading. Our Newcastle generator hire team supplies temporary power. That covers 24/7 emergency generator hire when a cut has already hit, standby generators for sites that want protection in place, and servicing and maintenance for generators you already run. Our Newcastle service page explains the rest. If you have no generator yet, tell us what must keep running and we will size one to suit. Planning ahead? Read about keeping your business running.
Storm Arwen hit on 26 November 2021 and cut power to about 240,000 homes and businesses on the Northern Powergrid network. By 30 November around 220,000 had been reconnected, and the operator said most of its remaining work was in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham. If someone at home is older, vulnerable or depends on medical equipment, they may be eligible for Northern Powergrid’s free Priority Services Register.
Northern Powergrid is the operator here, so use the live map linked above for current Newcastle outages, with restoration estimates where available.
