POWER OUT IN GLASGOW RIGHT NOW?

SP Energy Networks looks after the electricity network across central and southern Scotland, Glasgow included. Open its live map to see whether your postcode is listed, or call 105, which is free from any phone in Scotland. Treat any fallen line as live and stay well clear.

  • Check your fuse box and trip switches first.
  • See whether neighbours have power.
  • Keep fridge and freezer doors shut.
  • Pull the plug on computers, games consoles and the TV until supply is back.
  • Carry a torch rather than a candle, especially on tenement stairs and in shared closes.

If the fault is only in your flat and the switches will not reset, call an electrician. If the whole close or street is dark, the network operator deals with it, so report it and check the map again later. Keep your phone charged, as you may need to report the cut again if it drags on.

KEEPING GLASGOW BUSINESSES ON

Industry around Hillington, the offices and studios at Pacific Quay and the wards of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan all need steady power. A cut stops production in industrial units, takes studio and office systems offline and leaves smaller firms unable to trade, and shops and restaurants lose takings and stock the longer it lasts. Tell us what has to stay on and where a generator could sit safely, and we can size the set to suit. For anything that cannot stop, such as cold storage, servers or tills, we offer 24/7 emergency generator hire, plus standby generators and servicing for planned cover. Read how to keep your business running through a cut, or arrange standby cover through our Glasgow service area page.
