POWER CUT IN ABERDEEN? WHAT TO DO

SSEN covers the north of Scotland, and its PowerTrack map shows live incidents. Dial 105 to report a fault. In winter, keep warm layers to hand and never go near damaged lines.

  • Report even if you think someone else already has.
  • Charge devices while supply is still on.

Before you report it, rule out a fault inside your own home. Has the trip switch on the consumer unit dropped? If it is safe to step outside, look for lit windows nearby and working street lamps. If your neighbours still have electricity, an electrician may be the right next call.

While you wait, leave the fridge and freezer closed, light rooms with a torch instead of candles and unplug sensitive equipment, so food keeps longer and nothing is damaged when the supply comes back. If someone nearby lives alone or relies on powered equipment, make sure they are safe and warm.

ENERGY, HARBOUR AND AIRPORT SITES

The Port of Aberdeen, Aberdeen Airport at Dyce and Aberdeen Heliport, one of the busiest commercial heliports in the world, keep people and supplies moving to the North Sea. Energy companies have offices in the North Dee Business Quarter, and the University of Aberdeen in Old Aberdeen depends on a steady supply too. At the port, airport and heliport, a loss of power can interrupt building systems and the support services behind arrivals, departures and offshore journeys, while offices and university labs need power to keep working. We provide 24/7 emergency generator hire, standby generators, and generator servicing and maintenance for businesses preparing for outages or dealing with one now. Visit our Aberdeen service area and see how we keep your business running.

By 29 January SSEN reported it had restored power to 92,000 customers.
