HVO FUEL

Power You Can Trust

HVO FUEL

WHAT IS HVO?

HVO (which stands for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a paraffinic drop-in diesel fuel substitute that provides a cleaner alternative to power your diesel generators, as well as other diesel-powered machinery. Conforming to EN15940 standards, HVO is manufactured from renewable waste, and has drastically reduced the volume Co2 emissions of our customers. Furthermore, our customers have been able to achieve this without the requirement to modify existing generators engines, infrastructure, or machinery.

WHY CHOOSE HVO FUEL?

HVO fuel is a clean-burning diesel alternative that is one of the most environmentally friendly fuels available. Raw materials are saturated with hydrogen at high temperatures and pressures during the production process, removing any esters and oxygen. This means it degrades at a far slower rate than ordinary biodiesel and diesel products. As a result, HVO can have a shelf life of up to ten years, significantly longer than regular diesel’s one year – which makes it a fantastic, long-term investment for our customers with on-site standby power infrastructure.

BENEFITS OF HVO

If your business utilises diesel as part of their standby power fuel solution, HVO can provide a fantastic opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%. Furthermore, there are many other benefits, which include:

  • A shelf life of up to 10 years
  • Low temperature performance (up to -30 degrees)
  • Fully conforms to EN15940 standards & certified by the ISCC
  • Completely biodegradable
  • Non-hazardous and odourless
  • Improved combustion over some diesel alternatives
  • Can cut CO2 emissions by up to 90%
  • Can be mixed with your existing diesel stocks
  • Average 10% reduction in AdBlue consumption

THE DRAWBACKS OF HVO

The immediate problem is one of availability. As HVO is still a relatively new product to the market, the UK’s supply chains are underdeveloped. As a result, prices remain high when compared to regular diesel, with premiums at least 15% higher than regular diesel. Finally, fuel consumption is also slightly higher with HVO, although the difference is extremely small.
