500KVA DIESEL GENERATOR INSTALLATION AT ABERBEEG HOSPITAL

Power You Can Trust

500KVA DIESEL GENERATOR INSTALLATION AT ABERBEEG HOSPITAL

INTRODUCTION

Following the critical power inrastrucutre audit, the team at Greens Building Services identified that the incumbent back-up power solution was no longer fit for purpose and was displaying severe wear and tear.

If a power failure struck the local area and the incumbent generator was required to take the load for any period of time, the team at Elysium Healthcare were not confident that the generator would function correctly, which would mean vital hospital systems wouldn’t receive the correct level of support, ultimatley affecting provision of care.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

GENERATOR INSTALLATION

A 500kVA Kohler-SDMO 65dBA @ 1m containerised unit

GENERATOR REMOVAL

Incumbent generator was removed by WB Power and also purchased, saving the client removal hassle and also money

FUEL TANK INSTALLATION

Installation on-site of a 7,000 litre bunded bulk fuel tank.

INTRODUCTION

Owned by Elysium Healthcare, Aberbeeg is a low secure hospital, set in 11.5 acres of land with beautiful views of the Welsh countryside, the hospital is located within the boundaries of the county borough of Blaina Gwent. Elysium Healthcare team appointed Greens Building Services to conduct an internal audit of the hospital’s back-up power infrastructure. The Greens team identified that their current generator was not fit for purpose, having been in use for a number of years, displaying severe wear and tear. Having developed a detailed critical power specification, Greens appointed WB Power Services to source, deliver, install and commission the generator and accompanying ancillary equipment.

PROJECT BRIEF

Due to the layout of the existing building and surrounding groundworks, access to the incumbent generator and the space available to manuvere the new generating set into position was extremely limited. Furthermore, due to the nature of the services provided, noise levels had to kept to a minimum, to ensure that the provision of care was unaffected, during and after the project.

SOLUTION & RESULT

The brief provided to WBPS by Green Building Services involved the de-commissioning and removal of a redundant 100kVA generator. Utilising a mobile crane, the incumbent generator was de-commissioned and removed from the site.

Once the old generating set has been safely removed, WB Power arranged for delivery of a Kohler-SDMO 65dBA @ 1m containerised 500kVA unit, which was connected to a 7,000l bunded bulk fuel tank. Following a request from Elysium Healthcare, WB Power also arranged for the new generator enclosure and accompanying fuel tank to be painted Emerald Green. This would comply with Elysium Healthcare’s corporate branding colour palette.

Working with Green Building Services who carried out the electrical installation, the generator and accompanying ancilllary equipment was delivered by our Projects Team within predefined time frames, ensuring the project came in on-budget, and provision of care was completely unaffected.
