OXFORD POWER CUT: CHECK, REPORT, STAY SAFE

Open SSEN PowerTrack and search your postcode to see if the fault is already known. If not, call 105, which is free in England. Treat any fallen cable as live and keep others away from it.

  • Unplug computers and TVs until the supply settles.
  • Check with neighbours before assuming the fault is yours.
  • Look at the consumer unit. A tripped switch means the fault is inside your home and may need an electrician.
  • Keep the fridge and freezer closed, and light the house by torch.
  • Look in on anyone nearby who may need practical help.

With the heating off as well, keep internal doors shut and wear layers instead of trying to warm rooms with a gas oven.

OXFORD SCIENCE, RESEARCH AND MANUFACTURING SITES

Oxford Science Park sits in Littlemore on the southern edge of the city, Begbroke Science Park lies about five miles to the north, and Cowley is home to a major car production site. Labs, cold storage and production lines are all exposed to a supply failure. Our Oxford generator service covers hire and standby power, and our guide explains how to keep your business running.

For a research team, a cut can mean lost samples or an experiment that has to start again, and cold rooms holding research material may need power back quickly. On a production line it means idle staff and missed output, and in offices it stops computers, phones and lighting. We provide 24/7 emergency generator hire, standby generators, and generator servicing and maintenance, and we can size a temporary supply to the work that has to continue while the network is repaired. Tell us what must stay running and where a set can sit, and we will plan the hire around it.

WHO RUNS OXFORD’S POWER NETWORK

Oxford belongs to SSEN’s central southern England network, the same system that reaches Swindon, Reading and the rural parts of Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire. SSEN looks after the overhead lines, underground cables and substations feeding the city. Households that may be eligible for the Priority Services Register, for example those with medical equipment, can ask SSEN to add them.
